Today was the last day to work on the video prototype and our “flex device”. We continued to use the paper screens we made yesterday as the printers in university still were offline and the paper ones mediate the message in a “okay”-way. Now it was time to actually do some filming of the prototype and try to show the user value.
We wanted to convey a device that will inspire people to interact with each other, although it’s not a usual behavior (to go up to a stranger and ask if they want to play a game on a device) but we thought that everyone could enjoy and bond over a game, especially the younger generation.
Figure 1 from video prototype session 28/1 shows 2 person waiting for something and are bored by doing that. One person get an idea to use the flex-device to do a social thing with the other person. The user value is a device that inspire interactivity between 2 people in any social context. Although it can be discussed how much practical use it has in real life we firmly believe this exercise was to get some experience in doing video prototypes and so not much thought was given to make the logic of the device waterproof.
As can be seen on this link of our video prototype, we are missing or are a bit weak in communicating target groups and also the user value could be a little more refined and highlighted. As the prototype is low-fi, a great amount of pressure was set on acting out the values it can represent. We found it as an interesting relation.
Other issues that could be dealt with better is, doing a time schedule, choosing a filming location and using correct camera techniques. These things would yield in a more professional looking video. Especially filming location could set the social setting for video and thus wouldn’t it be necessary to imply or explain it in the video. By doing this things not only will the video be time efficient but also the actors will have less burden to perform and the values will be easier to show.
