First week recap

A lot of interesting information have been presented. Prototyping isn’t an isolated task, it is joined and paired up in different ways with several elements. Depending on how advanced the outcome should be, the level of complexity can rise very fast. But the point is that a prototype should be made in an efficent matter to embody thought, ideas and functionality into something physical.

So far this past week we had theory (introduction) about prototyping. A guide through the wood/metal-shop and the associated tools, as well as introduction to the arduino micro controller and programming in javascript.

Two assignments have also been presented, on group assignment where we should do a video prototype based around one theme. The main objective and outcome of the exercise, I would guess is to train in setting context, time efficiency and mediate a story. Also, a bunch of technical stuff which can be learned-by-doing.

Other assignment is an individual one. Netflix gesture exercise, in which we should do a short video prototype. Here I would guess the main objective is to learn to think creatively and also kickstart the course by doing a short assignment.

So far, since I’m quite handy in the mechanical part of doing prototypes my interest is directed towards the theory of why and when to use a specific “tool” and how to choose the right one.
